As I mentioned in my blog earlier, it is very energy efficient to make sure that your HVAC system is well-maintained. Something as simple as a dirty air filter can make your heating or air conditioning work extra hard. This burns energy. And, burning extra energy is what we are trying to stay away from.
That’s why it is recommended that you change your air filters at least every three months. You should inspect your air filters every month to make sure that they are still in good working order and functional. Some houses (especially those with pets, smokers in the house, or who live in dusty areas) need to change their air filters every one to two months.
In addition to the air filter changes, it’s important to have an HVAC company come out and inspect your HVAC system at least twice a year. Preferably, those inspections match up with the seasons. In other words, have the technician come out just before you plan on turning your heater on or, just before you plan on turning your air conditioning on, for the first time every year. An HVAC technician can inspect your system to make sure that it is running correctly. They will also look for any sort of clogs in your ductwork or clogs in your drain line.
There are any number of things that can go wrong with an HVAC system. Many of these issues do not make your HVAC system break down immediately. Instead, your HVAC system will just not work as well as it should. This can equal hundreds of dollars in energy costs. This is money that you should not have to pay if you keep your HVAC system well-maintained.
